Check out some of these brunch hot spots in Pittsburgh next time you want to enjoy a day of fun, food and drinks with friends or family.

1. The Porch

A restaurant staple in Oakland, The Porch sits right in the heart of Schenley Park alongside the University of Pittsburgh’s campus. A popular spot for any meal of the day, the brunch menu lives up to expectations and features classic brunch dishes like delectable omlettes and southern comfort food including chicken & waffles.

2. The Vandal

The Vandal is a neighborhood restaurant and wine bar located in Lawrenceville. Offering a fresh brunch menu that changes with the seasons, The Vandal serves up tasty artisanal dishes featuring frittatas, breakfast sandwiches, and fresh fruit.

3. Lola’s Eatery

Lola’s Eatery is newer to Pittsburgh but not to be missed. Currently offering to-go-only brunch, visit the pick-up window and take brunch to one of Pittsburgh’s many parks! Lola’s has a create-your-own breakfast sandwich menu with lots to choose from, as well as other tasty breakfast options like bagels & lox and avocado toast.

4. Square Cafe

Square Café recently relocated from Regent Square to a larger space in East Liberty. Dine inside or enjoy the rooftop patio as you dig into delicious breakfast offerings including a large menu of both savory and sweet. Square Café also has many options that are vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free, not to mention a variety of coffee, smoothie and cocktail options. There is truly something on the menu for anyone to enjoy.

5. Walter’s Southern Kitchen

Enjoy a true southern Sunday Brunch right in the heart of Lawrenceville on the lawn (or inside) Walter’s Southern Kitchen. From biscuits and gravy to fried chicken, cornbread and more, you’re guaranteed not to leave hungry. Walter’s also features a variety of lawn games and other entertainment, so plan on staying a while and having yourself a good old-fashioned Sunday Funday.

We may be biased, but we truly believe that Pittsburgh is a foodie’s paradise. If you’re ready to get back to dining out, add these new restaurants to your list of spots to try next. From ethnic cuisine to American classics, there are so many different flavors to please anyone’s palate. And the best part? These restaurants are just a stroll or quick ride away from many Sterling properties.

New Restaurants in Pittsburgh

1. Oishii Donburi, Lawrenceville

A brand new spot for Korean cuisine in central Lawrenceville, Oishii Donburi has a tasty selection of curries, traditional bowls, bibimbap and more.

2. Roots Natural Kitchen, Bloomfield

Roots Natural Kitchen has opened their second Pittsburgh location in Bloomfield. Customers looking for a healthy, well-balanced meal can build-their-own-bowl, or choose from a selection of premade bowls featuring fresh proteins, veggies and grains.

3. Thai Table & Kitchen, Lawrenceville

Pittsburgh loves Thai food, and Thai Table & Kitchen is another great addition to the city. The new restaurant features classic Thai appetizers like chicken satay, traditional soups including Tom Yum, and a variety of entrees including rice dishes, curries and noodles.

4. Pusadees Garden, Lawrenceville

The newly reopened Pusadees Garden seems to be the talk of the town. The restaurant closed back in 2017 for some major renovations, and now it’s back and better than ever. From the Thai-inspired menu, to the expansive outdoor dining area, this is one Pittsburgh restaurant not to be missed.

5. Cobra, Bloomfield

Cobra opened over a year ago before the pandemic, but now they’re officially back and ready to serve up some delicious Korean barbecue. Cobra is a great spot to enjoy a night out with friends cooking your dinner over the shared table grill while you sip on craft cocktails. Did we mention there’s also karaoke?

6. Fig & Ash, Northside

Fig & Ash is a wood-fired mash-up of Modern American and European-inspired cuisine. The restaurant takes pride in offering truly made-from-scratch dishes. From the beautiful indoor dining room to a cozy outdoor space, Fig & Ash provides a memorable dining experience for all to enjoy.

7. Pizzaiolo Primo, Downtown

This beloved restaurant in market square was forced to shut down during the pandemic, but luckily, it was purchased by a new owner and is officially open for business again. From the wood-fired pizzas to the house-made pasta, Pizzaiolo Primo offers a taste of Italy right in Pittsburgh. If you choose to eat outside, you may even imagine yourself in a real Italian piazza.

8. Galley at Bakery Square

Galley at Bakery Square has officially opened. It features four different restaurant concepts including: GG’s Café, offering comfort-cuisine like roasted chicken and ribs; Somi, offering healthy, nutrient-dense Asian cuisine; City Fresh Pasta, offering a variety house-made pastas and sauces; and Bubba’s Burghers, a gourmet-burger joint created by Pittsburgh Radio Personality, Bubba Snider.

9. The Eagle Food & Beer Hall, Downtown

Fried chicken is having a moment, and the new Eagle Food & Beer Hall in Downtown Pittsburgh is taking full advantage! The restaurant features homestyle fried chicken including family-size portions, a variety of classic sides like collard greens and mac and cheese, and a wide selection of beer to go with it.

10. LeVia Trattoria, Lawrenceville

LeVia Trattoria is a unique scratch kitchen and BYOB concept in Upper Lawrenceville. Inspired by their Italian grandmother, the menu features comforting Italian dishes that taste like home and a cozy atmosphere to match.

Fancy a Trip to the Farmers Market?

The weather in Pittsburgh is steadily warming up and finally showing signs of staying that way. For a city like ours, it seems like there is so much more to do when we’re able to get back outdoors. One of those warm-weather activities is the return of farmers markets all across the city. Check out these markets which are all super close to home!

1. Bloomfield Saturday Market
5050 Liberty Ave

The Bloomfield Saturday Market is located in the heart of the neighborhood along Liberty Ave and runs from May through November. Shoppers will find locally grown produce, local meats and cheeses, coffee, prepared foods, flowers, handmade crafts and more. Bloomfield also offers a Winter Market between December and March, so you’ll never have to give up your Farmer’s Market Saturdays.

2. Lawrenceville Farmer’s Market
Arsenal Park

The Lawrenceville Farmers Market sets up shop in Arsenal Park every Tuesday from 3-7pm, May 18 through December 14. More than just a farmer’s market, organizers have a goal to lower the barriers to fresh, healthy food for low-income families, the elderly, and anyone with food insecurities. They also support farmers and small business owners through incentive programs, educational opportunities and neighborhood outreach.

3. East Liberty Farmer’s Market
N. Euclid Ave

East Liberty has created a Farmer’s Market of their own beginning in May. Shoppers can enjoy a wide assortment of fresh goods including bread, olive oil, flowers, kettle corn, produce, cider, and much more. To see the full list of vendors, click here .

4. Other Pittsburgh Farmer’s Markets

Like we said earlier, there really are farmer’s markets all over the city! You can also hit the market a little further from home in these neighborhoods: Forest Hills, Fox Chapel, Green Tree, Market Square, Northside, Monroeville, Mt. Lebanon, Sewickley, Swissvale, and Wilkinsburg.

Sterling Land Company is going through some exciting new changes. So, we thought what better way to capture those changes than through the introduction of a new blog?

In case you haven’t met us yet, we’re a family-owned real estate company located in the East End of Pittsburgh. Our distinctive properties are located in the charming neighborhoods of North Oakland , Shadyside , and Bloomfield , right in the heart of the best healthcare, universities, restaurants and shops that Pittsburgh has to offer.

We were founded in 1915 by John McSorley, a builder who emigrated from Ireland and began constructing several apartment buildings in the East end of Pittsburgh. In the second generation of the business, several families were bought out. Over the last 30 years, Generation 3 has run and grown the business, diversifying asset classes to include commercial real estate. Today, Sterling Land is a blend of 3rd and 4th generation stakeholders and managers. We are currently in the midst of a succession process to pass the business onto the 4th generation.
